THE LOCALITY SURROUNDING PEQUENA GRACA

This little known area of Central Portugal, known as Ribatejo, (literally between two rivers) is practically in the very centre of the country of Portugal, rich in culture, heritage, customs and with festivals and Festas (village parties) throughout the year. Yet peace and tranquility can be found all year round at Pequena Graca, so you can rest and relax and recharge your body during your stay with us.

For the more adventurous, the beautiful Castelo de Bode Lake, actually a man made reservoir dating from 1951, offers all sorts of activities with swimming from floating pontoons, to kayaking, to wake boarding and water skiing, all of which can be arranged (at extra cost) in advance for you to make the most of your stay here. And well worth visiting are the ancient villages and towns of Dornes, Sardoal, Serta, Vila de Rei, Fatima, Nazare and Obidos to name a few.

Portuguese roads are, in the main, excellent and traffic free away from the large conurbations like Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra, so travelling to all parts of the country is easy and without stress.
TOMAR
Close to Pequena Graca is the historic city of Tomar, steeped in the history of particularly the Knights Templars and The Order of Christ, as a result the city is dominated by the stunning Castle/Convento de Cristo (A UNESCO World Heritage Site) where Henry The Navigator planned many of his explorations and developed navigational aids far ahead of their time. Beneath the castle is the old town with its wonderful narrow cobbled streets and picturesque windows and doorways,

many of them dating back hundreds of years. Tuktuk rides can be arranged and also accompanied visits to many of the historical sites with Knights Templar Tours (at extra cost, but well worth it). Tomar has a theatre, museum of contemporary art, sports stadium with swimming pool, historic Mata Park, riverside walks, a lively Friday market, Matchbox Museum, and plenty of places to get a drink or authentic Portuguese food. Throughout the Spring, Summer and early Autumn, music festas are held in local villages, and historical/heritage events such as the Festa Templarios (early July) and the Festa Tabularios (scheduled next for 2019) are major events in Tomar itself.
